Actually, there are some people that cares about you, it could be your lover, your close family members, your colleagues that thinks you’re a joker at work because you make them laugh or probably someone that you owes money, these set of people definitely cares about you.
But if you’re constantly thinking people are checking out on you at an event, or you wants to embark on a project but your first impression is what would people think or say, this is where the spot light effects comes into action, nobody really cares like that.
“The spotlight effect” is a term used by social psychologists to refer to the tendency we have to overestimate how much other people notice about us. In other words, we tend to think there is a spotlight on us at all times, highlighting all of our mistakes or flaws, for all the world to see.
For example, if somebody says something incorrect during a conversation, and the spotlight effect made them think “Now everybody must be talking about how I'm stupid,” a more balanced thought might be something like “Other people might have noticed my mistake, but they probably didn't think much of it afterwards.”
People are constantly thinking about themselves, what to eat, how to be successful and get rid of sapa, how to live their dream life, this is what a huge percentage of people are thinking about, not you nor your mistakes or the kind of clothes you wore.
Next time you find yourself in the spotlight hole due to social anxiety and overthinking, try to calm your nerves and have it at the back of your mind that people have more consequential issues to worry about.
Don’t let what would people think or say derail you from embarking on your plans and achieving your laid out goals because in the end, you’re all you’ve got, nobody really cares like that except you’re owing them money or you’re with their kidneys, lol.
||Side note||: I took an unexpected break from writing RWA newsletter every Sunday, actually it wasn’t an unexpected break, I planned to miss just a week, it’s unbelievable how a week turned into a month even though it was a deserved break, thank you for always rocking with me.
Keep living the good life and endeavor to make people feel better whenever you come across them, you’ll never know what they are going through, be nice.
Yes, people don't actually care as such. With mistakes, we keep going.
Thanks, bro.❤️ Cheers to a deserved break.
You are welcome.
